For the fourth year in a row Traditions Spirits played an integral role in the Oklahoma Restaurant Association’s annual Cocktail Shakedown, which takes place during the convention and expo in Downtown Oklahoma City. President Marcus Tilley served as the emcee, while a group of our VP’s, directors, and managers were on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly throughout each round of the competition.
In honor of this being the fourth year of the shakedown, four additional bartenders were allowed to compete—bringing the total number of mixologists to sixteen!
The atmosphere in the room was very high-energy, with a Red Bull DJ spinning records, and a light show that mimicked that of a night club! Another addition to this year’s competition were four large flat screen televisions that gave both judges and onlookers a birds eye view of the cocktails that were being concocted.
At the end of the day, it was Thomas Upshaw of The Bunker Club in Oklahoma City who took home the first place prize with his creation called “The Horse Buck”. Along with cash and an abundance of amazing prizes, Thomas received two championship belts—the most coveted of the winnings—one for himself, and one to display in the bar where he works.
It’s been fun to see how this competition has grown in popularity over the years, with new and repeat competitors who love to show off their skills by creating original drink recipes on the spot, while bringing their own unique style and presence to the stage!
